Chapter 19 Terms 1. Uncle Tom’s Cabin, 1852 : a fictional work written by Harriet Beecher Stowe (a “wisp” of a woman!), this was a  heartwrenching novel stemming from Stowe’s dismay-ness of the Fugitive Slave Law. She wanted to use the book to  awaken the North to the wickedness of slavery. NOVEL GREAT SUCCESS! HIGH FIVE! 2. Hinton R. Helper, 1857 : (Hinton is a name) wrote  The Impending Crisis of the South . He was a nonaristocratic white  man from North Carolina who hated both slavery and blacks. The book was a buncha stats that said nonslaveholding  whites suffered the most from slavery.  3. New England Emigrant Aid Company : important anti-slavery organization made up of northern abolitionists and  free-soilers that sent 2000 people to Kansas. (“HO FOR KANSAS!”). These people believed that if enough "Free- Staters" established themselves in Kansas, they would prevent slavery by exercising their right to popular  sovereignty. 4. Pottawatomie Creek, 1856 : five proslaveryites were hacked to various tasty pieces by Ol’ Brown. Proslavery-ians  were MAD and this however messed up the free-soil cause and was part of the road to the Civil War. 6. Lecompton Constitution, 1857 : tricky, tricky! This was a tricky document devised by the devious proslavery forces  and it supported the existence of slavery and protected the rights of slaveholders. It was a tricky document because
