(FNR: regulatory protein that binds DNA in the absence of oxygen. Its consensus sequence: 5’ TTGATNNNNATCAA 3’ CRP: regulatory protein that binds DNA in the presence of cAMP. Consensus sequence: 5’ AATTGTNNNNNNNNNACAATT 3’) For fun, modify this: make it so that it’s expressed only in the presence of glucose and absence of oxygen; presence of glucose AND oxygen, and so on. Draw the coding strand of a DNA that will be transcribed and produce an RNA of a specific length in a bacterial cell. Add features to the DNA that will allow the resulting mRNA to be translated to make two polypeptides. Modify one feature of that DNA so that less mRNA is made per unit time. Modify one feature of that DNA so that the two polypeptides are made in different amounts. Modify one feature of that DNA so that the second polypeptide is exported to the periplasm. For fun, modify this DNA so that the RNA is not of a specific length. Modify it so that it is only expressed under conditions of heat shock, and when glucose AND oxygen are absent. Why is it that the operons in a regulon do NOT have to be adjacent to each other?
