H OW TO W RITE A P ERFORMANCE L AB R EPORT P URPOSE : Most labs, other than the ones you design yourself, will already have a purpose given for the lab. Read the purpose, and decide why you are doing this investigation. Write in your own words what it is that you want to find out. Example: To examine the effects of acid rain on the deterioration of marble over a years time. H YPOTHESIS : A hypothesis is an educated guess or a prediction. Write your prediction of the outcome of the experiment (what you predict will happen during the experiment) and what your results will be. Make sure it is written in a complete sentence and that the statement is testable. Example: The prediction for this investigation is that oil is denser than water because it is thicker, heavier, and flows at a slower rate. M ATERIALS : List all the materials that you used to complete the lab. Do not forget to include the amount of materials also. P
