Submitted on: 18 March 2011 ABSTRACT The combustion of fuels is at the heart of today's energy, materials, chemicals, and transportation systems. Conventional combustion processes involve the mixing of fuel and air containing approximately 78% volume nitrogen (N 2 ) and 21% volume oxygen (O 2 ). Unfortunately, the nitrogen in the air is a detriment to the combustion process because it reduces cycle efficiencies and contributes to the formation of various pollutants including nitrogen oxides (NO x ). Clean Energy Systems (CES) has developed high-pressure, oxygen-fuel combustion technology based on mature, proven rocket technology. Integration of that enabling oxy- fuel combustion technology into conventional power generation systems makes Zero- Emissions Power Plants (ZEPPs) based on fossil fuels practical today. This exercise report requires us to design a wind turbine system and use software such as PSIM, to test out the simulation of the design circuit. There are also specifications like Wind Speed Distribution, the Power Control and the Gear Box are also taken into consideration when designing the wind turbine. Overall, the primary objective of this exercise report is to enhance our knowledge on design of a wind turbine system. Lastly, it also allows me to understand the critical points to take note when constructing a wind turbine. ACKNOWLEDGMENT This final report has been done in Nanyang Technological University (NTU), School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I would like to use this opportunity to thank my supervisor Associate Prof. Luo Fang Lin for his outstanding help and guidance throughout the whole exercise of this module. He has given us excellent ideas to help to improve on this final report and always there for us to help us when we encounter any problems especially in computer simulations. Last but not least, I would like to thank all the laboratory technical officers for their support and guidance. 1. OBJECTIVE The objective of this exercise report is to design a converter. The energy from the turbine cannot be used directly since the voltage and frequency are varying, we us PI controller with voltage feedback, to maintain the output voltage at 400V (line to line) and frequency at 50Hz.
