Rituals Ritual : a repeated event that is typically done the same way each time. Family rituals : a repeating family event that occurs in the same manner each time. Family rituals arise based on repeated, patterned processes in a family that take on special meaning . This meaning is shared amongst all family members This meaning is not obvious to outsiders Key points: Family rituals make us feel like we belong (Christmas Eve Play) Many of the “traditions” we have in families are actually family rituals Rituals are based in symbolism (Graduation) Rituals are linked to numerous positive family outcomes
