Syllabus for: Information Systems 100 (ISys 100) and (1/3/11) (Spreadsheet Skills – MS Excel 2010) Information Systems 101 (ISys 101) (Presentation Skills – MS PowerPoint 2010) Welcome Welcome to ISys 100 (Spreadsheet Skills using Excel) and ISys 101 (Presentation Skills using PowerPoint). After attending the orientation session, all assessments (quizzes and exams) for these courses are done online during the block or term – so you MUST take personal responsibility for learning the required material. There are supplemental lectures each week, and the TAs will be available to help via email and at the lab hours/locations listed in the course handout. Spreadsheet and Presentation skills are among the most useful for all management and business professionals; you will use them extensively in Marriott School courses, and, indeed, throughout your career and your life. Therefore, it should be a high priority to make these skills a part of you. Your competency and expertise should be such that you “OWN IT!!” Additional Syllabus Information For information on academic honesty, preventing sexual harassment, students with disabilities, diversity, the policy on the use of technology in the classroom, and the Marriott School cell phone policy, please visit http://marriottschool.byu.edu/classroompolicies/ Email Account Information Make sure your Route Y email address is up to date and working, we will send you email there. Use the following steps to change your email address in Route Y: 1. Go to www.byu.edu . Log in with your net ID and password. 2. On the left side of the web page, click ‘Personal Information.’ 3. Click on the tab that says ‘Contact’ This link is located just above your mailing address. 4. Click on the link that says, ‘Email Address’ 5. A window will open asking you to enter your current email address. a. You should enter a valid email address. If you mistype your email address here, you will not receive course emails. b. If you use an email address such as hotmail you may need to add [email protected] and [email protected] to your “safe list” so that our mass emails don’t get blocked. 6. After entering your new email address, click ‘Save.’ It is essential that you use an email address that you check frequently and which will not block course emails. Passing ISys 100 and ISys 101 satisfies spreadsheet and presentation software skills pre-requisites for application to the Marriott School and for ISys 201. If you plan on taking ISys 201 you must complete and pass ISys 100 either before you register for ISys 201 OR during the FIRST BLOCK of Isys201. These courses are graded Pass/Fail. All assessments (quizzes and exams) are administered through MyITLab software. To “Pass” the course students must do BOTH of the following: 1
