Misplaced, Dangling, and Two-Way Modifiers Misplaced Modifiers: Place phrase and clause modifiers as near as possible to the words they modify. Confusing : Two meetings have been held to make arrangements for a return bout in the office of the State Athletic Commission. Dangling Modifiers : A modifying phrase or clause must clearly and sensibly modify a word in the sentence.
