Commentator/Response Paper Assignment (10 Points) Once during the semester, each student will prepare a one-page, single-spaced, thesis-driven paper offering a close reading of one of the literary texts we are reading for class. On the day we discuss the literary text you have chosen to write on, you will make at least one substantive comment during class, based on your response paper. At the end of class, you will submit your response paper to me. Paper Requirements • Essays should deal with the text or portion of the text that we have read for the day. • Essays should be one-page, single-spaced, with one-inch margins. • The brief introduction will have as its main task the advancement of an original thesis statement that grows out of the close readings that the body of the paper performs. • The body of the paper should be devoted to performing close readings. For important guidance on performing close readings, see the document “Doing a Close Reading” in the Assignments section of Blackboard.
