STDEV 239 PREVIEW of MEDICINE  Brigham Young University Coordinator: David A. Kaiser, EdD, ATC, LAT Office: 3328 WSC Phone: 422-1627 Email: david_kaiser@byu.edu Office Hours: MWF 2:00-3:00, TTH 10:00-11:00 TA: Jessica Crockett Course Purpose: This course is designed to give the student greater insights and understanding into the medical profession and the application process to medical school. Much of the course content will be delivered by the guest lectures of practitioners in the profession. Learning Outcomes: 1. Students will have an increased understanding of the medical profession. Student achievement in this learning outcome will be directly assessed by: Attending guest lectures by physicians of various specialties and complete assigned reflective journal entries. 2. Students will understand the application process for medical school and analyze their individual preparation for this process. Student achievement in this learning outcome will be directly assessed by: The student developing an academic plan for completion of required course work and when the standardized admission test will be completed. The student evaluating their professional school preparation in the non- cognitive assessment areas and constructing a plan to address these specific areas of preparation (i.e. clinical observation/shadowing, research, extracurricular activities & community service, leadership).
