Video notes “Dark ages” 3/31/2011 History Channel-producer Constantanoble- Theadora- Justinean emperor changed the law so he could marry her cuz he fel in love with her. She was practically magic -I am emperess I am not running away -justinean ordered execution for his political enemies -a plague (25-30% of the people) hit their city more than half the city died -he wanted to resurrect his people -emperer re conquering the west –Rome will rise again -populations massacred -dedicated a new cathedral in constandtanoble under the ashes of his broken city -hia Sophia-best church -it was meant to persuade the people that Justinian should be thought of as biblical. He got cocky -italy north Africa egpyt- etc. . conquered. Mediterainean was a roman lake again -they had to stop trade so rats from the plague never got to Europe(arrived via cargo ship) -justinean survived the plague- he no longer was the man he used to be -blamed theadora-it was a punishment for her sexual intentions - theadora died of cancer. He outlived her by 17 years
