Discussion wk 7 I found an interesting article on the Bible dealing with the age of the earth. I talked about carbon-14 dating and the fact that carbon-14 dating proved that the earth is actually young instead of billions of years old. But, first I wanted to find out what carbo-14 dating is. From the source http://hyperphysics.h\phy-astr.gsu.edu I learned the basics of Carbon dating. Carbon dating (Dr. Willard Libby is the founder) is a variety of radioactive dating which is applicable only to matter which was once living and presumed to be in equilibrium with the atmosphere, taking in carbon dioxide from the air for photosynthesis. The neutron bombardment (the major part of the atmosphere) produces the radioactive isotope carbon-14. Carbon-14 combines with oxygen to form carbon dioxide and is incorporated into the cycle of living things. The carbon-14 forms at rate which appears to be constant, so by measuring the radioactive emissions from once-living matter and comparing its activity with the equilibrium level of living things a
