OCS 1006 Fall 2009 Review for Final Test Th Dec 10 12:30 - 2:30 Regular Classroom There will be 4 discussion questions worth a total of 50 points. 1. One will deal with the fisheries concept of maximum sustained yield. 2. One will deal with pollution in the environment and the concept of maximum allowed dose. 3. One will deal with eutrophication. 4. One will be completely hypothetical. That question is as follows. The Earth has two layers of fluid on its surface, the atmosphere on top and the ocean under that. The air is transparent to sunlight the ocean only partially transparent. Sunlight passes through air without heating it and then heats the surface of the land and the upper layer of the ocean. These warm surfaces then heat the air causing winds. What might the ocean be like if water was also as transparent as air? Provide some brief speculation considering each of the following: Ocean Physics Ocean Chemistry Ocean Geology Ocean Biology If you expect no effect, just say "no effect". Answer the question as if water had always been transparent, not as if it suddenly changed. If you want you may answer ahead of time and turn in hardcopy at the test. 25 Multiple choice questions worth 2 points each will be based on the following topics.
