Unformatted text preview: Anthony 1 Anthony Ferreira Dr. Amanda Gradisek English 101 TuThru 10:30a.m. September 4, 2010 Graduation Summary It was 1940, and time for graduation at Lafayette County Training School in Stamps Arkansas. The 8 th graders were all getting tremendously excited to move on with their life because only a small percentage of students would graduate. This school was for African American students which at the time werent looked at by the white people as exceptionally intelligent. During the graduation the girls dressed in butter- yellow pique dresses, and the main characters mother made sure she looked the best she possibly could. After all she was at the top of her graduating class without any absences or tardiness. There was only one competitor above her, Henry Reed, whom she respected because of his hard work and was respectfulness toward his elders.
