Engineering has helped the world out greatly for many years. It goes all the way back to the great pyramid at Giza. People falsely believed that around 100,000 hard working slaves build this monster pyramid, but historians believe that it would take much more then that(Winston). Roughly 60,000 men worked on the outside of the pyramid, and 300,000 hardworking men worked on the inside to complete the pyramid (Winston). To construct and design something so massive at this point in time one man or women must have been thinking in an engineer’s mind point. They would have to make sure every piece was put together properly and make the design so strong that it would last for many years. It is obvious that the pyramids were build by a true genius because no other building structure that was built since 3000-2500 BC is still around (Carr). The designer thought about strength and stresses that would be put upon the pyramid. Since the pyramids were built, there have been many new designs for weapons, buildings, and anything else that helps us out on a daily basis. As it goes for old weaponry the catapult was a great design and idea to kill many soldiers at once at its time. Its design was simple but at the same time very effective. It could throw rocks, fireballs, and anything large enough to kill a good number of people. The way this worked was almost the same way a sea-saw works. For example, if a 90 pound person was on one side of a sea-saw and the other side there was a person who weighed 180 pounds, it is obvious that the person who weighed 180 pounds would be on the ground while the other was suspended into the air. Now if the 90 pound person was pulled down with a rope attached to it by other people, the 180 pound person would be in the air, but just like a catapult the moment the person drops the rope the 180 pound person is going to go straight to the ground while the other fly’s into the air. to operate

such a massive machine it took a couple strong people that would crank a gear to wind the wire up. Then to fire they would have another soldier pull the lever to launch the item. Besides just the bigger inventions in the past that are considered engineering the little things we take for granted such as fire or clothing can be considered engineering from our ancestors. These days where our biggest engineering starts is in college unlike in the past where designs were not as complex. Engineering peaked to its max in 1986 with the most engineers graduating from college (Clayton). After the intense peak it soon fell, but gradually is starting to rise back again (Clayton). There are many different places to go to college for engineering. The top five best school for engineering are Massachusetts institute of technology at 36,140 dollars a year, Stanford University at 38,400 dollars a year, University of California at 15,006 dollars per year, Georgia institute of technology
