Rachel Waguespack Cs302/F 12-1 April 23, 2010 Homework 7 Exercise 1 : Using the Internet, investigate the ways in which embedded computers are used, or might be  used, in at least one of the following devices and describe the benefit it provides: parking meter, a home  appliance (choose one), thermostat  An embedded system is a computer system that is embedded within a device that is  designed to perform only a few specific functions. An embedded computer could be used  in a parking meter to identify the time money was put in and how long it has been since,  and then that could trigger the display to change to notify the user or parking attendant.  This could also be used in a thermostat where the user inputs a certain temperature to  maintain, and the embedded computer simply identifies if the actual temperature is  above or below. This would then trigger either more air conditioning or more heat.
