Gwendolyn brooks Gwendolyn brooks born in Topeka, Kansas on June 7th, 1917 and passed away on December 3rd, 2020 in Chicago Illinois . She was a very respected, influential American poet during the 20th century. She won the Pulitzer Prize on May 1st 1950 making her the first African American to receive this award. She was the poetry consultant to the Library of Congress making her the first block women to hold that position as well as poet Laureate of the State of Illinois. She became the first African American women inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Summery The poem starts of by informing us about seven individuals living the live fast die young lifestyle. In the first line of the poem it is stated the character believe they are real cool and then stating they left school.
