How can genetics contribute to obesity? To aid in answering this question we will learn 1. How DNA, the endoplasmic reticulum, and the golgi apparatus in an adipose cell produce the protein leptin. 2. The function of the protein leptin. 3. How a change in the DNA results in changes in the “leptin signal”, which results in changes in the production of “leptin, or leptin receptors in membranes” . 4. And, that the result of these changes is an incorrect message to the brain about regulating appetite and eating.
