Joints – Articulations Joints = articulations 3 Types: Fibrous : - sutures of skull- no movement - Membranous- little movement Cartilaginous: - Epiphyseal - growth plate- distal end of radius - Fibrocartilage- ~ Pubic symphasis - sits between two pubic bones. During birth and pregnancy- thins out and becomes more mobile to prepare for birth of baby – the hip bones pull apart to make pelvic cavity and outlet bigger. ~Intervertebral disk : sit between bodies of the vertebrae- cushions, shock absorbers, Anulus fibrosus : goal is to stay in place and stay constricted and keeps in nucleus palposus . Bulging disk- when nucleus palpsus gets out of annulus fibrosus- affects the spinal nerve- causes pain. Synovial : highly moveable - Capsule surrounded by ligaments - Cavity- lined with synovial membrane - Bone end covered with hyaline cartilage( articular cartilage) – wanted for movement of one bone on another - Articular capsule and ligament surround the cavity between the bones covered with cartilage- inside the cavity is synovial membrane ( lines the cavity- secretes fluid to
