Social deviance is a trend that has existed in all societies where there have been norms. There are two possibilities for how an individual will act in the face of social norms; conform or violate. There are formal and informal types of deviance, the formal are the ones that a person could get into legal problems for. For deviance to be recognized all five factors need to be looked at: deviance, deviant, norms, morals, self-control. Someone who is living in poverty may be living that way as a result to social deviance, such as addiction, lack of a formal education, etc. Social deviance has become a social problem because society sets the standard of what may be deviant. Over time, deviance acts may become less deviant due to society becoming more lenient. As we become more tolerance as a nation this can lead to a decline in law enforcement (Robertson, 2014). Explain how social deviance perpetuates the social problem you selected on a micro and macro level (150-200 words). Very few people live in poverty by choice. Those that live in poverty due to economic and social issues like losing a job or dealing with addiction goes against both norms and values practiced by society. Alcohol and drugs use would have been considered deviant behavior however, it has become part of our norm in this current age. We have so many people using drugs and alcohol to combats things such as anxiety and depression. Today society has become
