Laser Technologies, Inc. (usually referred to as Laser Tech) is a computer-services firm located at 4778 South
Roselle Road, in Schaumburg, Illinois 60169 (northwest suburbs of Chicago). Many of its clients are small- and
medium-size businesses, with the remaining clients being private individuals who want a reliable source of
help for their home-computer systems and for training on popular software. Five major types of client services
form the bulk of Laser Tech’s offerings:
Phone-in technical support for software problems
Design of new personal and small-business computer solutions (hardware, software, networks, internet
Technical support for software installation, virus removal, data backup, and data recovery
Hardware and network installation and repair (workstations, printers, routers, cabling, networks, hard-
disk crashes, etc.)
Software training (usually on site at Laser Tech but sometimes at vendor’s site)

YOUR DEPARTMENT: THE TRAINING GROUP
You are the supervisor in the Training Group. Your responsibilities include training workshop development
and evaluation, along with all typical personnel functions (recruiting, screening, hiring, training, evaluating,
etc.). The training group provides a variety of training workshops, as follows:
Word: Creating and editing text documents, using page-layout and format features, working
with fonts and styles, using color and special effects, inserting photos and business
graphics, and performing mail merges.

embedding sound and video elements, embedding sounds and videos, and using colors.
Excel: Understanding spreadsheet basics; creating business graphics; working with formulas
and functions; modifying formats, fonts, and colors of cells; columns, rows, and selected
areas; sorting and selecting; and using pivot tables.
Publisher: Understanding page-layout basics, inserting and editing text, creating and
manipulating vector graphics, working with raster images, cropping and scaling,
wrapping text, and using master pages.
One-Note: Understanding One-Note concepts; creating notebooks; inserting text, graphics,
