BUS 315: Instructor: Kristan Skylar Powell January 19 & 21, 2010 Ch.3: The Environment of Management Objectives: The objectives for our classes on Wednesday January 19th and Friday January 21st are to 1) understand how organizations are embedded in environments of multiple stakeholders and the resulting ethical and operational implications, and 2) look at how groups form and evolve over the course of a project. Assignments: There are no written assignments due today, but today is a good opportunity to decide upon industries or business types for the group business plans. Outline of Slides/Study Guide: Group warm-up question: Identify one (for-profit) organization which you consider to be socially responsible. Why do you consider this organization to be socially responsible? 1. Ch.3: The Environment of Management a. Stakeholders: People whose interests are affected by an organization’s activities. i. Internal Stakeholders: These include 1) employees, 2) owners, and 3) the board of directors (if any). ii. External Stakeholders: People or groups in the organization’s external environment that are affected by the organization’s activities. 1.
