Unformatted text preview: Jerry Byrd Sept. 10th. 2010 French controlled Indochina The French were fierce to the Vietnamese people Ho Chi Minh opposed this Ho Chi Minh was preferred as the leader of Vietnam United States took over unofficial control of the French Indochina region as the French pulled out of the region The United States did not find Ho Chi Minh and his communism acceptable. Some on the ground fighting occurred during this process A division of the country of Vietnam occurred Communists taking control of the north and the United States sponsored the southern half of the country The politics and the Mcarthysism of the time made the United States very leary of any communist spread of influence. The United States sought to put a stop to any communist agression With this mentality the United States earned the title of world police As we go further into the sixties and early seventies you will see how this philospy failed us. ...
