He said that the Hebrew God was NOT the same God of the NT. He said let’s cut out the OT so as to eliminate the tension between the 2 parts of the bible. Augustine on Neo-Platonism: Docetism: Greek for “to seem.” Docetism has something to do with Sanctification. Cyril says they need to realize the full humanity and full divinity of Jesus in order to accept the idea of our salvation. If Jesus wasn’t fully human he couldn’t fully die. Basically, if the cross was an illusion, our salvation was an illusion. Intelligence of the victim: Jesus was aware that he was the sacrificial lamb/scapegoat for humanity. His death was a gift to us, one which was gratuitously given; he doesn’t call us to repay him. Therefore, it was also nonreciprocal. His death was out of love and a fulfillment....
