A survey of shoppers at a branch of a department store chain was taken to determine whether they preferred to pay in cash or with a credit card. The results are as follows classified by gender of the shopper. This example illustrates the formulas you type in when you enter a crosstab table in a spreadsheet by hand. See Data sheet for data.

Click on the cells to see the formulas used. This table is used to answer questions like "What percentage of Cash users are females? The table can be used to compare Cash users with credit users. This is a table of total percentages.

It answers questions like " What percent of Females use cash for purchase?" The table is useful for comparing male purchasers with female purchasers.
