Major topics covered include: optimal portfolio selection and asset allocation, asset pricing models, anomalies, and fundamentals of fixed income and derivatives. Special topics change from year to year to reflect recent trends and practices in the industry. This year’s special topics include (1) mutual funds; (2) hedge funds; (3) financial analysts; and (4) personal finance. READINGS Zvi Bodie, Alex Kane, and Alan J. Marcus, Essentials of Investments , 8th ed. 2009, McGraw-Hill/Irwin. Note: You may use older editions. However, keep in mind that chapters and problems will differ. Teaching Notes. SCHEDULE Session 01 Session 02 Session 03 Class Sessions M/W 1:30 – 2:45pm M/W 3:00 – 4:15pm M/W 4:30 – 5:45pm No Class Jan-18 (Martin Luther King Day); Feb-10, Mar-10 (Evening Exams instead, see below); Mar-15, Mar-17 (Spring Break) Midterm Feb-09, Mar-09 – 8:00 – 9:30pm – PHYS114 Final Exam Time / Room: by University Registrar Office REVIEW SESSION There will be review sessions prior to each exam. These review sessions are optional , and no new material will be discussed. However, I highly recommend you attend the review session.
