Sam, Sam the Butcher Man (Lydian/duple) Objectives: 1. Students will be able to move to the macrobeat of the song. 2. Students will be able to echo patterns on a neutral syllable (aural/oral). 3. Students will be able to improvise rhythm patterns in duple meter. 4. Students will be able to perform improvised patterns as rhythmic ostinati. Procedures: 1. Teacher sings song and students move with teacher to the macrobeat. (Two reps.) 2. Teacher chants rhythm patterns on a neutral syllable and students echo. 3. Teacher sings song and students move with teacher to the macrobeat. (Two reps.) 4. Teacher chants rhythm pattern; students audiate a different rhythm pattern. 5. Students volunteer to share improvised patterns; class chants patterns as ostinati while teacher sings the song. 6. Repeat with other students’ improvised patterns.
