Alexis Levine EDUC 2130 Reflection Paper 6 February 15, 2011 Reflection Paper 6 In this video Ted talks about the effects of social networks. He gives his first example with obesity. From studies one can become obese because someone you associate yourself with is obese. If your friends are obese you are 45% more likely to become obese. He simply states that, “my weight gain isn’t causing your weight gain, but we are friends because we share common things.” An idea is spreading that obesity is more acceptable if you surround yourself with people like that. He states that we show emotions and people tend to copy human emotions they come in contact with. He gave the example that if someone smiles at you, you will automatically smile back out of courtesy. Your friends most likely will know each other if you interlock your different groups of friends and not separate them creating your social network. According to the article “Imitation of film-mediated aggressive models,” people are more likely to act aggressively if they have witnessed an aggressive event. An
