Pre-Lab Lab Unit 07 - Hand Asepsis Levine 1 Alexis Levine Maxwell T/R 28, February 2010 For this lab, we will be experimenting different ways to hand wash. The main purpose of hand washing is to rid pathogens from the skin that could cause infections. To ensure to kill off most pathogens, washing all over your hands with warm water and soap is necessary (Yang, 2003). To help do this, scrub your hands and between your fingernails. In the hospital setting, it is imperative to wash your hands before and after touching a patient. Most soaps in the hospital contain and antibacterial agent that will help kill the bacteria (Yang, 2003). If a patient had a bacterial infection, that infection could spread to anyone in the hospital if the staff did not wash their hands using the proper procedures. This will always involve using just water to clean your hands. Using some sort of soap with some antibacterial agent. The procedure for this lab will now be laid out. Washing your hands aseptically with this technique is extremely important to
