7.104 DATABASE ENGINEERING I WEEK 01 – AM8 LAB DATABASE SYSTEM INSTALLATION This laboratory exercise aims for the student to familiarize with installing a database system (ie, MS SQL Server 2008 and also ORACLE 11g) into a virtual PC that runs Microsoft Windows XP operating system. It is recommended for students to follow these steps; (A)Login into the PC with appropriate account (Tutor will issue the login account) Copy the folder WVPC_7104 from drive K into Desktop. (B) Create an XP Virtual Machine Operating System in the PC 1. Go to start -> All Programs -> Windows Virtual PC and select Windows Virtual PC 2. Select the Create Virtual Machine on the top panel 3. Specify the name of the virtual machine as XPVM_DB and note the location of your virtual machine files C:\Users\am8-?\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines 4. Increase the memory from 512 to 1024 5. Select “ use an existing virtual hard disk” and specify the location of the XPVM_DB.vhd inside the folder WVPC_7104 which you copied onto the Desktop
