Taylor Baker CJR 256 2-17-09 Interview Growing up in the inner-city was less than glamorous for Flint native Brian Dwight Mickens. Facing adversity from an early age, he considers his biggest accomplishment to be getting himself out of the so-called “hood” and doing something positive with his life; attending college and playing football. Brian spent his childhood years with his younger sister and his two parents in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. He admits that “Flint is a rough place and I didn’t go to a real good high school, but I picked my crowds and I stayed focus and prayed.” Despite this hardship, he was involved with different activities at a young age including football and boxing. He has always been very interested in sports and his childhood dream was to become a professional football player. Though he has different dreams now as a twenty-year-old college student majoring in Broadcasting, he still believes that this goal can be accomplished in his future. In high school Mickens was involved with the school’s football and track teams, while
