Endoderm – gives to rise to lining of digestive system and structures Bulk of body comes from mesoderm By 4 weeks – start to find lots of body already Heart starts to beat Limb buds appear 4-5mm long Head end is farther along than tail end Different forms of brain being developed Major blood vessels Spinal cord starts to form Know table 49-2 page 973 2 nd 2 trimesters you’re just getting bigger Human fetus at 10 weeks – follow through what happens to the blastoceol, yolk sac, etc 10-12 weeks before you can tell sex physically Control of development What controls gene expression What controls o Determinations and differentiation Determines what happens to cells o Gene is turned on is going to change developing patterns o Nuclear equivalence : remember, initially, all cells have same nucleus o Patterns you need to know Cytoplasmic substances Proteins mRNA – regulates expression of gene itself o added to zygote by mother, diffuse into embryo o protostomes (mosaic) o determinate cleavage – cells after cleavage have predetermined fate
