Unformatted text preview: Janie Park Soc 1 5 May 2010 Nickel and Dimed In the chapter Serving Florida, the character tries to make by in life working multiple low to minimum wage jobs. Out of laziness, our individual starts her low-wage life in Florida as it is nearest to the town she lives in. After countless job applications and interviews, her first job is at the Hearthside as a waitress where she soon learns after a weeks work that it was somewhat a livable lifestyle. But unlike at the Hearthside, at her second job Jerrys also as a waitress, she is constantly moving and tired of the continuous smell of smoke. She also works as a housekeeper where she cleans and makes beds for hours without a break. As she was once a consumer, our individual realizes that life as a worker is not an easy life to live as it is filled with continuous stress and exhaustion. But to improve her situation, she could stand up to her worker colleagues as they order exhaustion....
