My Very First Quincinera On the Saturday of November 14, 2009, I was given the opportunity to attend my very first Quincenera with my roommate. Her hometown only a couple hours away, we made the journey to attend her cousins Quincenera which I knew would be an experience I would never forget. Ecstatic to attend a celebration of a once in a lifetime event, I was nervous yet extremely excited to experience a coming of age celebration that would always be remembered for the special girl. Unaware of what to expect, I assumed it would be a ceremonial experience and did not expect that there would be dancing involved, but to my surprise, this experience turned out to be a little more than just a church ceremony. As I entered a Catholic church for the first time, I was immediately inspired by the vivid decor of the church. Surround by numerous pictures of Jesus and his crucification, I was carried away by the peaceful atmosphere created by the various candles surrounding the room. As friends and family gathered and sat themselves in the rows of seats, it somewhat reminded me of
