Complete and pass the lab safety certification posted under Assessments in your lecture Blackboard course (12 correct answers for the 15 questions in one attempt is required for passing).

2 Required Materials Textbook : Chemistry & Chemical Reactivity, 7th Edition, Kotz, Treichel & Townsend, Thomson/Brooks-Cole Publishing, 2009. Lab Manual : CHM 11500 Laboratory Manual , Purdue University, Fall 2011 Edition, Hayden-McNeil Publishing, Inc. A carbonless laboratory notebook. A simple battery operated scientific calculator with exponential, logarithm and square root functions will be needed for exams. Two-line non- programmable calculators are allowed. Alpha-numeric and programmable calculators will not be allowed for exams. Calculators are available for purchase outside WTHR 200 during the first two weeks of class. A virus-free electronic storage device for lab data. Access code for the On-line Web-based Learning (OWL) homework system online ( http://www.cengage.com/ichapters/puch em ). If you used OWL previously you will probably have access for a period of time. Approved splash goggles are available at the bookstores, outside WTHR 200 during the first two weeks of classes or from the storeroom on the 1 st or 2 nd floor in BRWN. Campus Emergencies If the university declares a campus emergency that disrupts regular class activities, students will be kept informed of any necessary changes in CHM 11500 activities via the class email list and announcements on the course Blackboard page.

His e-mail address is on the cover page of this packet of information. General Chemistry Office, BRWN 1144, 49-45250 The staff in BRWN 1144 handles all the administrative details associated with the course. For example, go to this office to change your schedule (weeks 1 and 2), to get signatures on university forms such as Form 23, to get grade checks, for OWL registration questions or to resolve grade issues. Staff members are there to help you but they must also abide by the professor’s and university’s rules.
