Unformatted text preview: BMAN30190 Empirical finance Project Guidelines and List of Events This document has two parts, 1. A guide to your project proposal, presentation, and final research project. 2. Details of the clinical project, giving 100+ individual studies from which to choose a project. The University of Manchester Manchester Business School Manchester Accounting and Finance Group BMAN 30190 Empirical finance 1 Guidelines on the individual proposal, presentation, and re- search project All the elements of this course unit are assessed in accordance with the Groups policies on, 1. length 2. late submissions 3. plagiarism 4. reference style For details of these policies, please refer to the relevant documents from the school. There are some further notes below on presentation, referencing and so on. 1.1 Registering your choice We will place a list with the General Office(venue to be announced) where you can sign up against the project of your choice on a date to be announced. You should sign up in person . Someone will be present to check that you only sign up for yourself. Therefore, please be sensible and fair about registering your choiceif someone else has already signed up against a clinical study, that option is no longer available. Make sure you come armed with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. choices. The list that we put up will simply have the clinical project numbers, against each of which only one student can put their name. To avoid long queue, we will randomly allocate you to a specific time slot during 9am-4pm. The random allocation will be done by lottery in a lecture. 2 Guide to writing the research proposal and final project Please note that we cannot give out samples of past projects. Given the wide variety of projects available, handing out copies of previous students attempts would unfairly advantage some students and disadvantage others. It is also difficult to obtain agreement from the author. Instead, we provide detailed guidance on what we expect for inclusion in both the proposals and the final projects(see below). We also provide an adapted version of a research proposal. The example is adapted from a successful research proposal that receives ESRC funding. Adaption is made to fit the BMAN30190 requirements. Some of the projects listed below will have been attempted by students in earlier years. Please do not try to get hold of any previous projects. We keep past copies of all projects, 1 and we will pursue even the slightest hint of plagiarism. Penalties for plagiarism are severe. You will be asked to make a declaration concerning plagiarism on the front of your project. 2.1 Guidance on presentation 2.1.1 Basic requirements on text formatting In addition to the schools rules on formatting of assessed coursework, It must be word processed To ensure your anonymity from staff and examiners will be preserved, only your registra- tion number should appear on your assessment. Your registration number should be on all pages of your coursework.all pages of your coursework....
