Week 4 Discussion 2 The question we are told to answer is: what have been the most important trade agreements that the United States Government has made in the last 100 years? The reading provided us with an abundance of policies that the United States have entered. I decided to choose two or three policies that seem to be the most important. The first policy of importance is the Smooth – Hawley Tariff. This is important because it help to send the United States into the Great Depression. “The liberalization of trade can be divided into several stages beginning after the Tariff Act of 1930, usually called the Smooth – Hawley Tariff, which established extremely high protection in the United States” (Appleyard, Field, & Cobb, 2010). This was a major learning experience for the United States, which makes it an important trade policy. The next policy has a better reputation by helping instead of destroying the economy. The
