Lisa Hansen Chemistry 161 Pre-Lab #6 Enthalpy of Formation of Magnesium Oxide Purpose: To determine the Enthalpy formation of Magnesium Oxide, using Hess’ law of constant heat summation. Method: Throughout the experiment the temperature will be monitored using a temperature probe program, and will be measured vs. Time. To start collecting data we will click the green arrow, and to stop the data collecting process we will click the red square. For reaction one and reaction two we will be using the same amount of 1M HCL, but the amount of Mg and MgO will be different. We will record the masses of each solid reagent. Each experiment will be done three times. Pre-Lab Questions: There are no Pre-Lab questions Safety: In this experiment we are going to be using different chemicals, so it’s important to take
