AK/ADMS 2511 – MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS Studying Approaches for the Final Examination Overhead 1 – Learning Objectives Well, have you finished all of the units or lectures, or are you taking a sneak peak at the examination hints? Whatever your approach, before you actually start doing the practice examination, it would be a good idea to have a reasonable understanding of the course materials first. Here, I will summarize the materials that are examinable, then suggest some approaches for studying. Based on marking past examinations, I will point out some problems that students have had in the past, and how you might avoid these problems. Overhead 2 – Materials covered by the examination The examination is a “full course examination.” All of the textbook chapters listed in the outline are covered, as well as all of the technology guides. The lecture materials comprise the overheads plus accompanying text, practice questions and suggested solutions. Overhead 3 – Studying Approaches The midterm studying tips provided you with the following suggestions: Make sure that you have read the text and worked through the Units (and practice questions); Review your notes; Set a schedule; and Do the practice examination. In addition, take a look at your midterm results – how did you fare on multiple choice questions as opposed to case questions? Was there a pattern in the way that you received marks? Did you receive more marks for case answers that were theory, or did you do 1

better at applications to cases where you needed to provide examples? Depending upon your results, this may affect the way that you would like to study. If you had problems with providing examples, you may want to spend more time reviewing cases and functional descriptions in your text.
