1.2 – QNX – The Operating System that Never Dies? Answer Guide [Note that the answers are examples: others are possible] 1. Why is it so important for an organization to make compliance an integral part of its culture? Hint: Is compliance a “top-down” or a “bottom-up” process? We can best talk about compliance using an example. Let’s consider privacy of data: people need to be assured that everyone in the organization is dedicated to keeping their information confidential. Every member of the organization must be involved from basic actions like taking all patient information off their desks when they go home at night to memorizing passwords rather than writing them down, therefore it is a bottom-up process. Considering program development, QNX likely has very strict standards about how its program modules are developed. Without such standards, a new QNX program might not work effectively with the other components that are already developed, or it could cause one of the other programs to fail.
