In Ghannam Live and Die Like a Man the ethnography explores the gender aspect in the Middle East in particular Egypt. Ghannam explores how men and women in low income villages in Egypt Al-Zawiya the low-income neighborhood in Northern Cairo. Through interaction with men and women she was able to discover the various gender ideals and the norms of men and women. In the book she focuses on the stress mounted on the men by the society that is the low paying jobs in which men work, the lack of government services provided for people in Al-Zawiya and how the various factors shape the life of an Al-Zawiyan man. In Live and Die Like a Man the ethnography of body and death is based on a cultural aspect. The body realm is based onthe sexual organs, sex organs and sex acts hence the gender scope.
