Rachel Waguespack rmw766 September 13, 2010 SPORTS ORGANIZATION ASSIGNMENT NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 1. What is the organization? The NCAA is an association for individuals, conferences, and institutions that put  together the athletic programs for individual universities in the US and Canada. 2. What is the purpose of the organization? It organizes the divisions of athletic programs throughout the country. 3. Where is it located? Headquarters are located in Indianapolis, Indiana. 4. When was and why was the organization started? The NCAA was created in 1906 to help clarify rules and regulations for competitive  sports among colleges. The idea was brought forth by Theodore Roosevelt after his  son sustained an injury playing football. 5. How is the organization structured? The athletic programs themselves are split into three divisions based on size of the  student body, but the organization is divided into cabinets and committees comprised  of different representatives from each school, which are then formed into sub- committees. The Management Council oversees all of these smaller subdivisions of  authority, and the Board of Directors, which is made up of school presidents, has the
