These are some extra questions for those of you interested in challenging yourself. They have no particular relationship to exams etc. just for your own interest. For a large number of challenging problems, check out the graduate level textbook Classical Electrodynamics the bible of E&M. 1. Use image theory to find the E-field for a point charge q in vacuum a distance d away from a dielectric half-space with permittivity . Find the bound surface charge density. Hint: the image charge q’ will have different magnitude than q . 2. Use image theory to find the potential, E-field, and surface charge for a point charge q a distance d away from the center of a conducting sphere of radius a that is connected to ground. Check your answer in the limit when the distance of the charge to the sphere surface is much smaller than the radius. It should reduce to the ground plane solution. 3.
