Hae Dong Yoo Prof. Parmiter November 19, 2006 Writing the Essay B Rich, an American columnist, once introduced Jeanette Winterson in his essay In Profile. In his essay he focuses on Winterson’s sexual identity as a lesbian, and Rich interprets her works in light of reflecting Winterson’s complex view on her sex. Although Winterson is praised for her modernistic literary style as well as her keen inquiry onto the traditional canons, she is still an outsider to the British press. It seems that Winterson being Lesbian sometimes pokes the curiosity of tabloids, allowing her to be attacked by long stories of imagined or real affairs written by those magazines. To these rumors, she tries to respond by making sense of her opinion about sexual complexity, aside from the traditional male and female categorization.
