THE ROYAL IDEOLOGY OF JUDAH The royal  ideology = the  picture  of kingship  as  promulgated   by the  kings  themselves.   The  Hebrew  Bible preserves  only  the  royal  ideology in Judah. A. Sources - 2 Samuel  7 (the  dynastic  oracle  of Nathan). - Royal  psalms  (2, 72,  89,  110,  132,  etc.) - Speeches  of prophets  about  contemporary  or future   kings  (e.g., Isaiah  9:6- 9 and  11:1- 9; Micah  5:2- 6). B. Claims  of the  Judean  royal  ideology: 1. God  elected  David  and  his  descendants  to rule  over  God’s people  (2 Sam  7:11,  16;  Ps  89:19f.) 2. The  Davidic  king  is the  adopted  son  of God  (2 Sam   7:14;  Ps.  2) 3. God  elected  Jerusalem /Zion  as  his  place  of  residence,  and  thus  he  will protect  the  city  against  enemy  attacks  (Pss  2, 46,  48). 4. The  Davidic  king  is a righteous  king  who  protects
