Unformatted text preview: Readings for: PART A: POLITICS AND THE POLITICAL The first part of this course will discuss the definition of politics and the political itself, trying to grasp what is considered its “essentially contested nature” or the many different variations of definitions that it encompasses. In order to better break down and understand these variations of definitions, we will learn the definition of ontology, epistemology, methodology and method, all theories that can be applied to understand these variations of definitions. Finally, we will explore two out of many ways that politics is seen – as determined by structure/agency, and as split into the material/ideational. Session 2 What is politics?
