Reflection assignment for POL 100 Sec 4 Globalization M.Abbas Taqi Roll number: 13020136 The basic argument presented by the authors in this text is that globalization has caused power and authority to transfer from the nation-state to transnational corporations and international financial institutions and this has led to a single global political economy. The authors then go on to criticize the “neo-liberal” model that the developing world has had to implement and how they have moved from a “state-centric” model under international pressure from the developed countries. They also present the “dilemma of globalization”, under which governments are put under pressure to carry out neo-liberal reforms but at the same time they might lead to “social resistance and political turmoil” in the country. A small historical background of movement from state to market control is also given. The focus then moves to “Transnational corporations” and why they seem to have so much power.
