Included with each section or problem are reference examples and end of section exercises that  can be used as a guide 36 / 40  Excellent Section 1.1: Identify the sample and population (References: example 1 page 5, end of section exercises 21 – 28 page 9) Each situation in 1a and 1b will have a sample AND population. 1a.  A group of 50,000 randomly selected adults were survey about whether they drink at least  6 8-oz glasses of water each day. Only 35% said yes to the question. (2.5 points each) i. What is the Sample?  50,000 adults that were surveyed ii. What is the Population?  All adults    ( both good ) Data set:  35% that said yes and the 65% that said no 1b.  An employee at the local ice cream emporium asks 3 customers if they liked cookie  dough ice cream. (2.5 points each) i. What is the Sample?  The 3 customers selected ii. What is the Population?  All the customers of the local ice cream emporium  (  both  good ) Identify a descriptive study or an inferential study.  (References: example 3 page 7)
