Elizabeth VanConia Chem 153-37 TA Liz Experiment 8: The Combined Gas Law and Dalton’s Law Pre-Lab Procedure 1. Set up following set up. Use 250 mL Erlenmeyer flask. Inside of flask must be completely dry. The glass tube in rubber stopper-as short as possible Rubber tubing must fit tightly in the flask and be just long enough to fold over and clamp 2. After placing 3 or 3 boiling chips in 600 mL beaker: Clamp the flask in place Fill beaker till nearly overflowing with water (so that most of flask is submerged) Heat water to a boil Air in flask will expand and escape through tube in stopper 3. After 5 minutes, air in flask should be same temp as water Measure temp of boiling water to nearest tenth CAUTION: NEXT OPERATION IS CRITICAL TO SUCCESS OF THIS EXPERIMENT, DO WITH GREAT CARE AND AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE!
