Elle VanConia Dr. Michael Farley Theology 100 March 28, 2011 Bible Paper 2 Psalm 19 (1) “The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making the wise simple” (Psalms 19:7). The commands the Lord has given his people are reasonable and perfect, he should be trusted that his commands are right and good. His laws are aimed at keeping his people from sin and keeping the soul pure. “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer” (19:14). The people of God shall always try to please God with their lives and worship. They should look to him as their foundation for life and faith. (2) “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge” (19:1-2). God’s people should see God through the world and the rest of his creations. They can learn through nature and the skies. Psalm 22 (1) “ ‘He trusts in the LORD; let the lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him” (22:8). The people of God should trust in him and their worship to him in order to be rescued. “They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed” (22:5). God shall deliver for those who proclaim their trust in him and reach out towards him to be saved. (2) “I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you” (22:22). Christians have the duty to spread the word of God throughout the community. They shall praise God in the company of others. “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him” (22:27). All families in the community should never forget the LORD and have a duty to continually worship him. Psalm 51 (1) “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (51:10). God renews the spirit of his people to cleanse their spirit, so they can continue to do good. “Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your alter” (51:19). In their worship the people of God should give sacrifices to the Lord to please him and demonstrate their commitment to him. (2) “Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you” (51:13). The community has a mission to spread God’s word and attempt to persuade those who have broken away from the Lord to turn back to him. “O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise” (51:15). God’s people shall use their abilities to spread Gods word and continue to worship him. Psalm 73
