English 701—Introduction to Academic Discourse Professor Benzon Paper Four Topic: Bodies in Motion In our final text of the course, Self-Made Man , Norah Vincent advances a complex and at times contradictory vision of gender identity and gender roles within contemporary American culture. She critiques conventional conceptions of gender as well as upholding them, and she is both critical and sympathetic towards both men and women. The complexity of her argument is itself a sign of how complex contemporary gender is.
